If you like Andersen’s comics, you still might enjoy this. That’s not what Ii was hoping for.Ī lot of people seem to love this book, but for me it was incredibly underwhelming.
But overall I was left feeling kind of meh about the whole thing. There were genuinely some panels that made me smile and amused me.
Some panels relied on the art for comedy or cuteness rather than dialogue, and sometimes that really, truly worked. The greyscale did suit the story, in that these characters are morally grey and proud of it. But each comic felt disconnected from the last in a way that stunted my reading experience. However, I felt the story really lacked the emotional element to make me truly care about what I was reading. The story is, I suppose, trying to be cohesive and follow a timeline. I usually really enjoy them for what they are: cute, quick reads. Serial comic bind-ups are pretty common these days, and I’ve read my fair share of them. Unfortunately, while the comics are kind of cute, I was pretty disappointed with it. And the cover art was really selling me on the whole vibe of the book. When I first found this book, I thought to myself, “omg, a graphic novel about a vampire/werewolf romance? YES”.
